EVENT INFORMATION

Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra pairs exclusive musical performances with delectable international cuisine at LACO à la carte, three intimate, elegant fundraising evenings this spring celebrating Australia, Turkey and China in the spectacular private homes and settings of the region’s international community. The unique events, each highlighting a single country or theme, include “Australia à la carte” at a luxurious private Brentwood residence of the Consul General of Australia on April 19, 7 pm; “Turkey à la carte” at the beautiful Hancock Park residence of the Consul General of Turkey on May 11, 7 pm; and “China à la carte” at the highly regarded USC Pacific Asia Museum in Pasadena on June 5, 7 pm. Providing a decidedly cosmopolitan flair to LACO’s wide ranging musical offerings, each program includes a reception and dinner featuring an array of gourmet specialties and beverages of the host country complemented by a salon performance spotlighting LACO musicians and guest artists. The LACO à la carte series, now in its ninth year, illustrates that music truly knows no boundaries. Proceeds help support the education and community engagement programs of LACO, proclaimed “America's finest chamber orchestra” by Public Radio International.

The LACO à la carte committee includes LACO Board Members Eugene Ohr and Agnes Lew, Allan Kotin, David Orenstein and Anne-Marie Spataru. Sponsors are East West Bank; Ned and Dana Newman; Leslie Lassiter; Gene Shutler; and Anne-Marie and Alex Spataru.

“AUSTRALIA À LA CARTE”
Thursday, April 19, 2018, 7 pm
In Brentwood at the Official Residence of the Consul General of Australia
Warm and generous hospitality from “down under” highlights LACO’s “Australia à la carte,” hosted by Australia's Consul General, The Honorable Chelsey Martin, at her beautiful Brentwood residence. “TURKEY À LA CARTE”
Friday, May 11, 2018, 7 pm
In Hancock Park at the Official Residence of the Consul General of Turkey
The Honorable Can Oğuz, Consul General of Turkey, extends a warm Turkish welcome for LACO’s “Turkey à la carte,” hosted in his classic Hancock Park consular residence and featuring delectable Turkish cuisine prepared by the resident chef. LACO violin I Jacqueline Brand leads a varied program inspired by this fascinating country at the crossroads of East and West.

“CHINA À LA CARTE”
Tuesday, June 5, 2018, 7 pm
In Pasadena at the USC Pacific Asia Museum
China à la carte, LACO’s final à la carte fundraiser of the season, is graciously hosted by the USC Pacific Asia Museum at the museum, housed in a Chinese Qing dynasty-inspired Pasadena mansion. The only university museum in the United States dedicated exclusively to the arts and culture of Asia and the Pacific Islands, it has a collection of more than 15,000 items spanning more than 5,000 years. The China-inspired evening features a moving musical program of strings led by LACO violin duo Carrie Kennedy and Joel Pargman and a feast of distinctive Chinese cuisine.

Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra (LACO), ranked among the world’s top musical ensembles, marks its 50th anniversary in the 2017-18 season. Beloved by audiences and praised by critics, the Orchestra is known as a preeminent interpreter of historical masterworks as well as a champion of contemporary composers. Headquartered in the heart of the country's cultural capital, LACO has been proclaimed “America’s finest chamber orchestra” (Public Radio International), “LA’s most unintimidating chamber music experience” (Los Angeles magazine), “resplendent” (Los Angeles Times) and “one of the world's great chamber orchestras" (KUSC Classical FM). LACO, which performs throughout greater Los Angeles, has garnered eight ASCAP Awards for Adventurous Programming. Jaime Martín, praised as "a visionary conductor, discerning and meticulous" (Platea Magazine), is LACO’s Music Director Designate and takes the podium as Music Director in the 2019-20 season.
