EVENT INFORMATION

Multi-talented musician Mark Menzies joins faculty pianist Gayle Blankenburg in a special pre-tour concert featuring the music of Cameron-Wolfe, Debussy, Harrison and Menzies.
The Pomona program will be dedicated to the victims of the recent massacre in Christchurch.
The duo will offer the same program this May in Christchurch, New Zealand.
Described in the Los Angeles Times as an ‘extraordinary musician’ and a ‘riveting violinist’, Mark Menzies, also a pianist and composer as well as a viola and violin virtuoso has been seen in performances throughout Europe, Brazil, Mexico, Australia, Japan, New Zealand and across the United States. Committed to performing a wide range of repertoire, Mark Menzies can be heard playing repertoire from the Medieval to the most recent, including by composers such as Sofia Gubaidulina, Brian Ferneyhough, Peter Maxwell Davies and Elliott Carter. Mark Menzies – formerly at Cal Arts – is now a Professor of Music at the University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand, in June 2016.
Gayle Blankenburg, a member of the music department at Pomona College, has performed extensively to great critical acclaim as a solo pianist, and chamber musician, with the Los Angeles Times saying of her playing, "Blankenburg played with elegant power and poise... Her crisp touch and light pedaling produced crystalline, pensive, haunting sequences... for a pianist with both power and a palette." She was an artist with Southwest Chamber Music from 1996-2003 and is currently a member of the Los Angeles-based ensembles "inauthentica," "the feHmEnbuRg trio," "the mEnbuRg duo," and "pierrotplus+." She has recorded over a dozen commercially-available CDs, including a solo CD of Carlos Chavez's Invention I on a Grammy-winning Southwest Chamber Music CD.
